Entry for July 11, 2008 ![]() Wow! The Dining Room is FABULOUS! Kudos to Jane Ayles for excellent direction and to the cast for Standing Ovation Performances! They take turns stealing the scenes, but Debra Buxton shines throughout the show! Audience members were laughing, crying and overall blown away by the quality on the stage before them.
There is ONLY ONE show left! If you're going to be in the area, get your tickets now...call me at 575-377-6273. It's looking alot like a sell out! Photo by Amy Sime, Sangre de Cristo Chronicle. Used by Permission 2008-07-11 17:30:02 GMTComments: 0 |Permanent Link

Here's the scoop as I know it now
Ok, here we go. It's about as firm as a ripe banana, but my confidence is high so I'm gonna blurt it out. Here goes....(it's a long one, please read to the end).
After 11 years of a complete product delivered by Texas Tech, the all volunteer board of AFMT scrambled to pull in a quality live theatre experience for locals and visitors alike. There is more to it than you might think. Texas Tech crews came with stage, lights, sound, sets, props, costumes and even curtains, one of which is emblazoned with the AFMT Logo. Still, undeterred, there is once again to be a Season 12. While it won’t look anything like past seasons, you’ll want to mark your calendars and line up to get tickets. First up is “The Dining Room” by A.R. Gurney. This is one of two that will be presented in cooperation with “The Space” Theatre in Taos. This somewhat dark comedy enthralled audiences in Taos this past Spring.“It’s success is part of how we made the connection. A few Angel Fire locals went and saw it and came raving back to me after they’d learned about our plight. Then, out of the blue, the phone rang, and it was Jane (Ayles). BAM, the train as leaving the station!” elaborated Katherine McDermott. The Dining Room will run July 9, 10 and 12, at the Angel Fire Resort Children’s Ski School. The box office opens at 6:30 and curtain is at 7:30. The show is rated PG-13. The week of the 14th-18th will be dedicated solely to the Children’s Theatre Workshops.“We just don’t have the staff or the means to double up that week”(McDermott). The workshops will run from 9-12 Monday through Friday. Based on the coordinated plans by local theatre professional Beth Tafoya, the performance on the 19th at 2:00 will be a must see. The following week we’ll have two performances of a two one-acts on July 23 and 24.This time it’s a partnership with the Metta Theatre (nonprofit) in Taos.Director (aka Executive Producer, aka Actor) Bruce McIntosh works with Taos youth to create extraordinary theatre.“This is a great opportunity for our own high school students, as we’ll offer $5.00 tickets to any student of the MVHS Charter or other area (Taos, Cimarron, etc. (high school)) students.” This two play show is also rated PG-13. AFMT Season 12 will finish with a BANG! Once again partnering with The Space, A “Directors Review” of Shakespeare will debut and run at the fabulous new amphi-theatre at the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial. A “Directors Review” in this case means, five different directors, choose multiple “scenes” to play. Snippets from Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, to name a few will enthrall audiences. These are rated PG. Mark your calendars for July 30, 31 and August 1 (We hope! If not, or if it pours rain, we'll be back at the Ski School) for the first ever collaboration between the DAV and the Arts in Angel Fire! So..we DID indeed “pull a rabbit out of the hat”! Stay tuned for more or stop by the Gallery (Angel Fire ArtSpace, 12 Crestview Drive, Suite 4/5E)and get the scoop! We're going to need alot of help...from hauling the risers from storage to the Ski School, Getting lights from and back to Albuquerque and on and on and on. If you can help please call Katherine! 2008-06-09 01:15:58 GMTComments: 0 |Permanent Link
